Pretty soon after my fiance's sweet proposal, I started researching wedding venues. While we ultimately decided to have an overseas wedding, I ended up with a giant list of really awesome venue ideas.

 

You may have already seen my ideas for getting married in New York and places to have a wedding in Pennsylvania. But I couldn't forget my home state, so I put together this epic list of wedding party venues for getting married in New Jersey.

As a North New Jersey resident, I made sure to include quite a few options for having a wedding in one of the many northern New Jersey cities. Don't worry; there are also options on the Jersey shore and beyond!

1. The Inn at Fernbrook Farms (Chesterfield, NJ)

A country wedding destination, this is one of the most beautiful places to have a wedding reception. You'll get a 230-acre active farm and a 1750 Georgian manor house as your venue. The venue has a resident chef and offers seasonal produce, as well as overnight accommodation for 18 people. With additional tents, you can fit more than 250 people in this venue.

2. David's Country Inn (Hackettstown, NJ)

This rustic wedding venue gets top reviews for weddings in Jersey, especially when you read through wedding boards and Facebook groups. The venue itself is a restored Victorian mansion with a structure built in 1840. All food is freshly prepared on the premises. The venue hosts only one wedding per day and can fit up to 200 guests. Tax and a service charge are additional.

One of the top elegant wedding venues in Jersey, this venue features a gazebo and a 12,000-square-foot club house. The golf club can accommodate up to 185 friends and family for when you tie the knot.

From the end of April through the end of October, you can include the outdoor Highlander Pavilion in your wedding. If farmhouse chic is your style, this Hudson County space is for you. A turn-of-the-century artist's loft, this is one of the best venues in north Jersey. Note that confetti, glitter, sand, stickers, feathers, and sparklers are prohibited. It can accommodate up to 130 people, and tax and gratuity are additional.

38. The War Memorial (Trenton, NJ)

If your family has a military background, this may be the venue for you. A national and state historic site, the War Memorial is dedicated to the memory of soldiers and sailors who died fighting in World War I. The venue offers several ballrooms, and the largest can accommodate up to 499 people; the smallest accommodates 49 people. Note that if you wish to hold your wedding on a state holiday, all rates and fees are doubles.

Located at Kean University, this historic venue was built in 1772 by the first elected governor of New Jersey, William Livingston. Pricing includes a tented reception, a cocktail hour in a carriage house, and a walk-through of the first floor of the Liberty Hall Museum. The venue works with five exclusive caterers.

40. Barrow Mansion (Jersey City, NJ)

How about a retro bowling alley at your wedding? This Greek revival mansion features one of the only 19th-century bowling alleys left in the country. One of the most historic estate wedding venues in New Jersey, it can hold up to 125 guests, but pricing is based on a 100-person guest count. Pricing includes an event planner (thank goodness, because this is definitely not one of those low-cost wedding venues!).

Here's a Georgian revival mansion that's not overpriced! It was built in 1930 and originally served as a home for the Maplewood Women's Club. 42. Grounds for Sculpture (Hamilton, NJ)

These beautiful galleries sit on 42 acres. You can choose to have your reception in a gallery, an auditorium, or a smaller meeting space. Each space can accommodate between 23 and and 260 guests. For an additional fee, you can rent a baby ground piano. Pricing is additional if you're having your wedding on a holiday.

43. Liberty Science Center (Jersey City, NJ)

Have you always wanted a museum wedding? One of the top Jersey City wedding venues (and really, one of the best wedding venues in northern New Jersey), this science museum offers a few different scenarios for where the cocktail hour, dinner, and dancing take place. Each scenario can accommodate 300 to 500 guests. Rental fees include tables, staffed coat check, security, engineering, housekeeping, and a dance floor. There is an on-site caterer, and catering fees are additional.

44. Wheaton Arts and Cultural Center (Millville, NJ)

This picturesque arts center sits on 50 wooded acres. You can opt to rent the venue for an entire weekend or just a day. The weekend option also includes the opportunity to make your own hand-blown keepsake. For an additional fee, you can rent out the Museum of American Glass, as well. Tables and chairs are included.

This art museum venue can fit up to 250 guests. If you rent out Lehman Court, which is adjacent to the galleries, your guests will have access to the galleries during your event. However, no food or drink are allowed in the galleries. For a fun wedding add-on, you can choose to rent an art truck for two hours so your guests can make on-site art projects. The venue works with a handful of approved caterers.
